Marginal Lands Can Yield Gold
Sri Dinesh Kumar, a 45 year old and innovative farmer decided to improve his income status. Knowing in the year 1991 that low fertility soils can be improved, he acquired 8 acres of land on lease from other farmers who were not satisfied with income due to low fertility. He came in contact with Haryana farmers and shifted there to start vegetable production on leased land. Then the Haryana govt. sends him to Thailand for training on organic farming and from there on he decided to do organic farming. On 2004 he went to JAPAN sponsored by govt. of India for training on agricultural impact and marketing. Then he started self marketing of his produces viz. vegetables and milk. Back to his native in 2006 he started convincing his villagers for organic farming. Gradually his cropping area increased to 52 acres in 2007 and his village became the largest organic vegetable producer of North jharkhand.
